DAVID ANDERSEN RULED OUT OF FIBA ASIA CUP

Some unfortunate news for David Andersen and the Australian Boomers will see the four-time Olympian return home immediately from the FIBA Asia Cup.

David sustained a shoulder injury against Syria on August 6 in a lead-up game to the FIBA Asia Cup.

An MRI was performed in Lebanon to confirm the diagnosis and best management of the injury.

Following the results of the imaging, the Basketball Australia medical team and coaching staff are in agreement that it is in David's best interest to return to Australia.

The actions taken are precautionary but respectful of his NBL club and the pending NBL season.

David will return this weekend to Melbourne for further specialist assessment and opinion.

The decision was made in collaboration with David and he is comfortable with the plan in place that will see him leave Beirut.

In the meantime, the Boomers will continue their FIBA Asia Cup campaign tonight in their final group stage game against Chinese Taipei with a victory ensuring direct qualification through to the Quarter-Finals next Thursday.
