Aussies battle in WNBA playoffs
The WNBA playoffs are currently in full swing with five Aussies competing across the postseason match-ups.
Jayco Opals stars Lauren Jackson and Belinda Snell of the Seattle Storm are currently locked in a battle against Penny Taylor’s Phoenix Mercury, with the series tied at 1-1 heading into the deciding Game Three.
Both Jackson and Taylor have faced injury concerns leading into the series, with Jackson still recovering from hip surgery, while Taylor missed her team’s final regular season games with a back complaint.
The Storm secured game one with an 80-61 victory before Phoenix rebounding to tie things up in game two with a 92-83 win.
Another Aussie who has already made a big impact on this year’s playoffs is Erin Phillips of the Indiana Fever. Phillips has had an outstanding season this year, and despite having a quiet Game One of her side’s series against the New York Liberty, Phillips pulled off the shot of the finals so far to hit the game winner and give the Fever a 74-72 victory. New York fought back to level the series in Game Two in their best of three series.
Tully Bevilaqua of the San Antonio Silver Stars is also amongst the playoff action, and after falling to the Minnesota Lynx in their first game 66-65, rallied to tie the series at 1-1 with an 84-75 victory this morning.
Game Three of Seattle versus Phoenix and Game Three of Indiana versus New York will be played on Tuesday morning, while Tully Bevilaqua and San Antonio will be hoping to clinch their series against Minnesota in Game Three on Wednesday.
